Jackson Rathbone Is Eclipse’s Most Improved Vampire Actor!

EW.com has a new article crowing Eclipse Vampire Jackson Rathbone (aka Jasper Hale) as the Twilight Saga – Eclipse most improved Vampire actor -
After noting in just about every Twilight Saga: Eclipse item I wrote leading up to film’s release that I was pleasantly surprised to not be laughing at Jasper Cullen, I feel the need to publicly crown actor Jackson Rathbone Most Improved Vampire Actor. To be fair to him, he didn’t have much to work with in the first two films, and, perhaps, we were even supposed to chuckle at the hungry look he gave Kristen Stewart in the first movie. (Did we ever decide?) Regardless, he’s great in Eclipse, particularly in the flashback sequence, when we get to enjoy the Southern drawl in his voiceover and watch him make that decision to follow orders. (I kept it vague for spoiler-phobes, but you can talk freely in the comments section.) Does he get your vote? (Nikki Reed could end up being the film’s scene-stealer with Rosalie’s beautifully-acted heart-to-heart with Bella

Peter Murphy Talks About His Eclipse Cameo!

Rolling Stone has a new interview with Goth Icon Peter Murphy, who had a cameo role in Eclipse. For those who have seen Eclipse he was a part of a certain “story” that was told -
“I didn’t assume there would be any interest, but just as an aside, I told her, ‘It would be excellent to be in the film, too,’” Murphy says. He’s had previous experience, performing Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in the 1983 vampire film The Hunger and has a hunch one of his tracks was key to the birth of Twilight: “I’m sure ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’ helped inspire the naming of Bella,” he says. “I’m not a Twilight geek, but if I had to choose between Bela [Lugosi] and Bella [Swan], I would choose Bella Swan.”

Patsavas told him the casting for Eclipse was complete, but four months later director David Slade called, saying, “‘Come be in my film,’” Murphy recalls. Slade offered Murphy a role as the Cold One, one of the original vampires, in a brief but “pivotal” moment, to illustrate a story about the beginnings of the werewolves’ struggle with the vampires. “It’s an imaginary flashback,” Murphy says. “Almost like a dream sequence.”
His shoot for his minute-long scene took a whole day, including makeup and choreography training so he could do the stunts himself. “They technically have this neutral gray canvas object that represents the wolf,” Murphy says, “and that gives you something to fight back [against]. I couldn’t fight a real wolf, though — I’m not that brave.”

Eclipse already Breaking Records

From Gossip Cop:

The newest numbers have Eclipse putting up a $68.5 million total on its first day, breaking the Wednesday opening record of $62 million set by Transformers 2.

The film also had the biggest summer period opening ever, beating Dark Knight ($67.2 million).
The blockbuster third installment of The Twilight Saga opened to more than $30 million on its first night in North America.
It surpasses the previous midnight opening record holder, which was the second Twilight installment, New Moon, at $26.3 million.
The movie also set a new IMAX record for midnight grosses with over $1 million from 192 theaters, beating Transformers 2’s $959,000.

Eclipse Review — Richard Roeper Says Eclipse Is “One Of the Most Astonishing Upgrades in Movie Franchise History”

Richard Roeper has to be one of the toughest critics around. And if you can impress him, that is certainly saying something about the movie. Roeper recently gave his ‘grade’ for Eclipse, and this is what he had to say -
“The first Twilight movie was mediocre and the second one was just laughable and melodramatic and over the top and ridiculous, so I didn’t have high expectations for this one,” said Roeper. “I have to say, this represents one of the most astonishing upgrades in movie franchise history.”
In his review, Roeper attributes this clear improvement, in part, to director, David Slade, and says all three leads raised their game, most notably, Kristen Stewart who’s character is more involved in this movie’s action.
“I can almost not believe I’m going to say this, but this is one of the better movies of the year,” adds Roeper. “It’s really well done, well directed, well acted, has great camera work and a terrific soundtrack.”

New Interview — Jodelle Ferland Talks Eclipse, and Bree Tanner!

BSCReview.com has a new interview with Eclipse Vampire Jodelle Ferland (aka Bree Tanner).
In the interview Jodelle talks about being cast in Eclipse, her character and more -
Elena Nola:  So, were you a fan of the Twilight series before you got cast as Bree?
Jodelle Ferland:  I had read the books, and I’d seen the movie, and I definitely loved the books.  I mean, I’m a major book horse, and I also really liked the movie too.  So I was a fan of it before I got the part.
What did it feel like to get a part in a story you like so much?
AMAZING!  I mean, it was completely unreal, when you see people pretty much every day and then suddenly they’re ACTUALLY in front of you.  It’s insane, I mean it feels so unreal!

How did you end up getting cast?  Was it something you had reached out on, like have your agent let them know you were interested, or did they just happen to throw the audition at you?
Well, it was the same as any other audition process.  I got a call from my agent that I had an audition for Eclipse, and I went and I did my audition, and then I got a call back, and after that I found out I got the part.
Did it make you nervous going into it, knowing that this was a project you were going to really want to do, or did it help?
I tried to think of it like any other show, because (giggles) if I started to think of it like, “Oh, my gosh, this is Eclipse, if I fail at this audition it’s going to be horrible,” it’s just too much pressure on me.  So I tried to stay calm and act like it was any other show.
Who is your favorite vampire?
Well, my favorite Cullen is Alice—she’s so cute. I love her!
How can you not?  She’s adorable!  How different do you think your experience has been, coming into Eclipse after the franchise was already a national phenomenon, as opposed to the cast members who went into Twilight thinking it was going to be a nothing movie?
(Laughs.)  Well, definitely everybody already knew each other really well. The whole cast was already established.  But they made me feel really welcome, and I was so happy to be a part of it.  It’s a lot similar to when I do a guest star on a series, because everybody already knows each other really well.  They’ve been working with each other for a long time, and then I come on just for a little while.  But I still had a really good time.
On the same line, have you been the recipient of much of the crazy fandom attention yet, other than you know, people like me randomly showing up at your other movies?
I definitely don’t get it as bad as the main stars, who have been doing it since the first movie—Kristin, Rob, Taylor (laughs). They have it a lot worse than I do.  But I’m sure that when I go to the premiere it’s going to be crazy!
Be ready to get screamed at.
Uh-huh.
How much have you gotten to work with the three of them, and the rest of the principles—the rest of the Cullen family?
I was filming for around two weeks, most of that was with the Cullen family.  I also worked with Xavier Samuel, he plays Riley.  I actually didn’t have any scenes with Taylor Lautner.
Not even during the big fight scene?
Naw.  I didn’t get to work with him, which sucked, but I did get to meet him.  So I was happy about that (laughs).

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' enjoys biggest Wednesday opening ever

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Kimberley French/Summit Ent.
Early estimates from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's Wednesday opening are in, and if they're accurate, Eclipse took in $65 million on opening day - beating the previous Wednesday opening numbers set by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($62 million) to become the highest Wednesday opening in movie history.
That still doesn't beat the opening day overall record set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon last November ($72.7 million), but New Moon did open on a weekend instead of in the middle of the week. (Note: these numbers must still "be refined.")
Still to come are numbers associated with the overall opening weekend showing by the film. Another record-breaking day for the Twilight Saga!
Comingsoon.net reports that Eclipse brought in $68 million on Wednesday rather than $65 million.
Gossip Cop reports the final numbers at $68.5 million and that this means Eclipse has brought in "the biggest summer period opening ever."
