Catherine Hardwicke Talks ‘Twilight’ and ‘Red Riding Hood’ to Seventeen
Director Catherine Hardwicke has made some of the coolest movies around, from Twilight to Red Riding Hood. To get excited for the DVD release of Red Riding Hood on June 14 (side note: take a look at the brand new site, where you can pre-order the DVD and figure out which of Valerie’s hot-guy options are right for you!) CG! sat down with her to talk inspiration, fantasy movies, and of course, Edward Cullen!Head over to Seventeen to read more!
CG: There’s a much darker, alternate ending to Red Riding Hood on the DVD. As a director, did you get attached to one particular ending?
CH: I like both endings! They’re very different. If I had it my way, I would have had one ending in one theater and one in another.
CG: What draws you to these dark, fantasy movies, like Twilight and Red Riding Hood?
CH: When I read the Twilight book, I didn’t see it as fantasy. I saw it as a love story. I really wanted to create that feeling of being madly in love with someone. With Red Riding Hood, there was whole different feel. Although there is that sense of falling in love, it’s different than Bella and Edward’s relationship. Valerie gets suspicions of the person she loves, which is a very real theme. Sometimes you’re looking at someone you love your whole love and think, “Could they have a secret?” Maybe you don’t think your boyfriend is a murder, but you’re wondering if he’s cheating behind your back!
CG: You were originally interested in casting Shiloh Fernandez as the role of Edward in Twilight. What made you go back to him for Red Riding Hood?
CH: I liked him when he did the auditions for Twilight, but Rob and Kristen had more chemistry, which is something you just can’t fake. I’ve always believed my leading lady should have a say in who plays opposite her. I wanted Amanda [Seyfried] to be very involved with the person she was supposed to be in love with on screen. We had a bunch of guys come in to read with Amanda, but her and Shiloh just hit it off best!

Summit Entertainment confirms ‘Breaking Dawn’ panel at Comic Con
Summit Entertainment has now confirmed the news via their twitter:
What Breaking Dawn tidbits can we expect from Comic Con next month?
Summit confirmed today that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part I, will have a panel at San Diego Comic Con next month. It leads us to wonder, what might we expect from the panel, and the film’s appearance at the con?
The Twilight cast haven’t made an official Twilight-related appearance at Comic Con since 2009 for New Moon (remember, Kristen Stewart was still rocking the Joan Jett mullet back then). Eclipse Con took it’s place last year, and now they make their big anticipated return to San Diego.
1) Twilight cast appearances. At the very least, assuming they are available, my guess is we’ll see Rob, Taylor and Kristen on a panel. Last year, there weren’t any other actors included in the panel, but in prior years, we have also had other cast (often times the bad guys — Cam Gigandet, Rachelle Lefevre, or promenant other characters — Ashley Greene in New Moon). And here is hoping that awkward and amusing dialog makes a showing as well. Example:
3) Merchandise. New merchandise is usually revealed at SDCC. What goodies will we get this year? The majority of BD 1 revolves around the wedding and honeymoon, as well as the aftermath of the honeymoon. I’m not sure if I want aftermath images on a thermos. But I can guess we’ll see a number of romantic images available on t-shirts, as well as new figurines, magnets, etc.! Anyone else hoping for Edward’s bed-breaking back on a keychain? I’d buy that!
4) Fangirls (and, therefore, haters). The fans will definitely turn up, much to the chagrin of other attending guests. So you can expect large crowds of teens and TwiMoms alike, as well as long lines of camping women wearing Team Edward and Team Jacob tees. In addition, you might spot a few people donning their best Twilight costume.

Kristen: I can’t wait to get pregnant.2) Exclusive clip(s). What footage would you like to see at the Con? I’m guessing we won’t get the main goodies (i.e. wedding, honeymoon action), so I am hoping more for interactions with Jacob, post-honeymoon. Something involving the Volturi, or perhaps the Cullen family would be fun to see.
Rob: I can’t wait to perform the Caesarean.
