The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' nears a half billion in sales, mentioned in early Oscar discussions

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is nearing a half billion in worlwide sales, according to recent reports.
The latest box office figures for the film point to a worldwide total of $456 million so far, resulting from a $237 million domestic gross and a successful $81.1 million on the international front this weekend (adding up to $219 million so far, internationally).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eclipse was the number one film of the weekend internationally, leading titles like Predators and Despicable Me.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has also been a part of a recent Variety discussion on early Academy Awards predictions. The publication suggested that Eclipse's music was one of a few "strong contributions" in the category of music, opening up the possibility that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse could be in the Oscar pool (as was The Twilight Saga: New Moon with Lykke Li's "Possibility"). Though, Variety also suggests that "popular" songs are not the type of material considered by the Academy.

Nikki Reed Talks Eclipse Details and Rosalie Hale

Nikki Reed who plays the bitter vampire Rosalie Hale takes us into the life of being a Cullen sibling and an actress for a movie that has demanding roles and sometimes not so nice weather conditions.
“I had always been excited about making it to this film, obviously.” says Reed. “Just for the sake of finally being able to justify Rosalie’s behaviour. I’ve carried that responsibility with me, making sure that people get where she’s coming from.”
The scenes, filmed around old West End buildings and the Hotel Vancouver, required hours in the hair and makeup chair to recreate Rosalie’s elaborate period look.
“That’s the process of moviemaking,” she says. “I also trained for seven weeks and didn’t end up in the battle sequences — that’s a very silly mistake that we made.”
A glitch in the lighting of her action scenes meant her work couldn’t be used in the movie’s climactic conflict between werewolves and good and bad vampires.
Reed had quit smoking a month before filming started — she’s been off cigarettes for a year now — and says her friends in the cast helped.
“I was spending a lot of time going to the gym and being physcially active in order to get my mind off it,” she says. “I hung out much more with Elizabeth Reaser this time because she’s very active, she inspires me. Taylor and I went jet-skiing, Kellan Lutz and I went to the gym. I was kind of with the jocks this time around.”
At work, another challenge to filming was Vancouver’s frequently changing weather. The story called for overcast skies, but rain sometimes forced them indoors.
“We were always kept close to the set because we had weather issues. We had to be prepared and ready to go at any given moment. We were all brought in every single day, put through hair and makeup and then we would wait our turn to see if they would need us.”

Robert Pattinson Named Best Screen Vampire by Guardian U.K.

When the word ‘Vampire’  is mentioned, most people think Dracula or some other scary monster. But since The Twilight Saga, times have changed, and for the better if you ask me.  With shows like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, the vamps are getting hotter. Well our super suave, sexy and humble vampire extraordinaire, Edward Cullen has been recognized as the Best Screen Vampire!
Robert Pattinson, The Twilight Saga (2008-)
Hard to credit, perhaps, but Stephenie Meyer’s blockbusting gothic romances have made R-Patz the most successful screen vampire of all time, outselling previous title holders Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in the Anne Rice adaptation Interview With the Vampire. Hardened horror aficionados may balk, but hordes of Twi-hard fans have swooned to Edward Cullen’s otherworldly charms, marvelling at the way his skin glitters in the sunlight, and dreaming of dying (and being reborn) in his sensitively pallid arms. Chastity never seemed so attractive.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' probably will not be rated R

'Breaking Dawn' by Stephenie Meyer - Hachette Books
The idea that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn would be an R-rated film has been circulating for a while, mostly driven by fans who want to see some of the steamier moments from the "Isle Esme" segment.
However, the general consensus has been an understanding that the Twilight series has a PG-13 demographic and that elevating the MPAA rating for this section of the franchise would be a very big mistake.
Now, Summit Entertainment's Richie Fay has confirmed to MTV that there is no intention from the studio's end for the fourth and fifth legs of the Twilight Saga film franchise to be R-rated.
"I don't see it ever becoming an R-rated movie," Richie Fay (distribution chief for Summit) stated. "I can't say for a fact, but I just don't see us getting into an R-rated area with any of the 'Twilight' titles."

'Twiilght' star Ashley Greene recognized with PETA award

Ashley Greene - AP Photo
For her new work with Mark at Avon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Ashley Greene has been recognized by PETA and awarded their Kind Choices Award.
The award was granted to Greene "for her compassionate decision to represent Avon, which led the cosmetics industry by ending all tests on animals and is widely recognized for its commitment to a cruelty-free testing policy."
Ecorazzi reports that PETA's Vice President of Laboratory Investigations, Kathy Guillermo, stated that Greene's decision helps by "encouraging millions of Twilight fans and other young people to choose makeup that’s fun, not fatal."
This is not the first time a Twilight star has had dealings with PETA. Twilight itself was granted the award for "Most Animal-Friendly Movie," and Twilight stars like Christian Serratos and Kellan Lutz have also campaigned for the organization's various efforts.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' soundtrack hanging tough on Billboard 200

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' OST - Summit Ent./Atlantic Records
The picture soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is sitting tough on the Billboard Top 200 list, resting at third place and considered the "greatest gainer" for the week of July 17, 2010.
The Eclipse soundtrack has been on the Top 200 for four consecutive weeks, waffling between a start in second place, a drop to sixth and the tenth, and now back up to third.
MTV wrote about the Eclipse soundtrack's continued success, noting that the number of units sold to achieve said gain were 65,000 (up 69%).
Chances are, the Eclipse soundtrack enjoyed a nice gain coming off of the film's theatrical release last week.

Interview With Dakota Fanning In Marie Claire! Plus New Outtakes!

Here is part of the Marie Claire interview with Dakota .  Plus more outtakes of Dakota and a different Marie Claire cover from this photo shoot by photographer Tesh.
The dress code at Campbell Hall, the private Episcopal school in North Hollywood, California, once attended by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and now by Dakota Fanning and her little sister, Elle, is strict: khaki skirt, shorts, or trousers, white collared shirt, navy sweater, closed-toed shoes. “You could actually wear this,” says the elder Fanning — wide-set, frank blue eyes; fair hair; milk-white skin; and the wispy limbs of a John Currin painting — flouncing her skirt, a cream-colored silk pouf, and in the process gaily jangles a wristful of bangles. We are sitting opposite each other in a quiet booth at the Sunset Tower Hotel, in Los Angeles. Her skirt might be passable, I think, but that little distressed white cotton tank with the bra peeking out could be grounds for detention. Ditto the 5-inch, brown Marni wedge sandals that were a present for her 16th birthday, in February, and that add significantly to her petite, not-quite-5-foot-4 frame.

And her costumes for last spring’s The Runawayswould have probably gotten her expelled. The movie tells the story of the rise and fall of Joan Jett’s first band, an all-girl hard-rock ensemble (dubbed “glam-punk” by some) that emerged in the mid-’70s. As the 15-year-old lead singer and Jett sidekick Cherie Currie, Fanning played part naïf, part sexed-up jailbait, in a frost-white wig, fishnet stockings, and an S&M corset. All in a moment, Fanning went from being an adorable if talented “child star” to the full-fledged genuine article, and critics took notice. Reviewing The Runaways in The New York Times,A.O. Scott gushed: “Ms. Fanning, who has shown herself a remarkably disciplined and self-aware actress almost since toddlerhood, displays heartbreaking vulnerability as well as frightening poise.” The Denver Post called her performance “uncorked.” The message was unmistakable: She had popped.
One lasting friendship to emerge from the experience was with Kristen Stewart, the 20-year-old Twilightlead who played Joan Jett to Fanning’s Currie. According to both young women, re-enacting the intimate friendship between Jett and Currie brought them close instantly, and a mutual respect has kept them that way. “Dakota is so unfaultingly steady,” Stewart says. “In most cases, I feel like she’s older than me. It’s only when she starts talking about boys that I remember how young she is.” (No, Fanning doesn’t have a boyfriend. So far, she says, there has been “nothing serious.”) The two, who briefly shared the screen in Twilight: New Moon, reunited in this summer’s Eclipse, the third installment of the series, with Fanning reprising her role as a diminutive child vampire in a long cape and Mary Janes. Her character, Jane, can inflict pain with her thoughts, achieved while staring intently at her victims with eyes that appear reflector-red, thanks to a pair of color contacts. Given how much actors rely on their eyes to communicate emotion, the contacts were a handicap that might well have unsettled another, less confident performer. “It’s something that’s always been there for me, that I have huge blue eyes — it’s been something that people have always talked about,” Fanning says. “But I enjoyed the red. You’re automatically transformed into a creature when you put those red eyes in.” Fanning (who has been reading since she was 2) tore through the Twilight books after she was cast. “They’re so addicting!” she says, though her natural taste in literature tends toward the more refined: Right now she’s reading Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel, The Virgin Suicides.
Sixteen is an age of ambivalence, a time of lingering on the threshold of adulthood with one foot safely in the realm of childhood. Some of Fanning’s recent choices seem calculated to project the message that she is no longer the wise child who debuted opposite Sean Penn’s mentally disabled character in I Am Sam when she was 6. (Penn was nominated for an Oscar for his performance; Fanning was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award — she didn’t win, but she was the youngest person ever to receive a nomination.) One such decision, playing an Alabama adolescent who gets raped in the 2007 indie movie Hounddog, created a backlash. To her astonishment, people seemed not to be able to distinguish between the real Dakota Fanning, then 13, and her character on-screen. “When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old,” Fanning says. “I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.’” There is a deliberate, patient rhythm to her ambition; right now she’s looking for a project to do with her sister, who’s 12 and is about to appear in Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, due out later this year. Fanning is on the brink, and she knows it: Picture an Olympic diver bouncing three times at the edge of a springboard before she takes the leap. “As you get older, there’s so much more that you can do in films,” she says. “I’ve never wanted to rush that; I’ve always wanted to do what’s right for my age, but as you approach 18, a whole new world opens up to you as an actor, and I really look forward to that.”

Jodelle Interview

JSYK has an interview with Jodelle Ferland.
Check it all out here.
Here is an excerpt:

Is it true you didn’t read the Eclipse script before you signed on to play Bree?

Normally when I do movies I usually read the script before I do it, but before ‘Eclipse’ I had a good idea of what the script would be like because I read the books and there was just no way I was going to say no. As soon as I found out I got the part and started to prep for the movie, I was allowed to read it.
