Jackson Rathbone Talks to FEARnet About “Love Lust” in ‘Eclipse’

In another awesome new Jackson Rathbone interview, this time with FEARnet, Jackson dishes out some deets on Eclipse, including what we can expect from the Jasper flashback scene -
FEARnet caught up with Jackson Rathbone, currently on tour with his band 100 Monkeys, for more details on what to expect from Jasper’s steamy Civil War-era flashbacks. He teased his scenes with Oscar-nominated actress Catalina Sandino Moreno, who plays the vampire Maria, and gave us a glimpse of what we’ll see in Jasper’s back story. (Hint: Fighting! Horses! Lust!)
In addition to his Civil War days, expect to see Jasper’s training put to good use in Eclipse’s present, as he trains his fellow Cullens for battle. But fun as those scenes were, Rathbone tells us he had a particularly strange time throwing punches at certain cast-mates…
FEARnet: In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, you get to work with Catalina Sandino Moreno…
Ah man, Catalina. That was amazing, working with her. I was a huge fan of Maria, Full of Grace and she was lovely to work with.
We’ll finally get to learn a little bit more about your character, Jasper Hale. What we can expect to see from Jasper’s flashbacks and your scenes with Catalina?
Jasper’s back story is that he was turned into a vampire during the Civil War era, so I got to don the Civil War regalia and ride a horse again — I haven’t been on a horse in like two years, so that was really fun. Basically, that’s how I meet Maria, who’s played by Catalina. Maria turns Jasper in order to make him the leader, or trainer, of the army that she needs in the South. Vampire armies are very prevalent in the South in those days. You’ll get to see a lot of deadly training vampire scenes, and a little bit of the love-lust relationship between Jasper and Maria and how it doesn’t really pan out.
Sounds like the type of turning scene your fans are going to love seeing. From the books and films, we know that vampires are turned with bites in various places; we’ve seen Carlisle, for example, bite Esme rather romantically on the neck to change her. So… can you tell us where exactly Maria bites Jasper?
Where does she bite him? Well, I don’t want to give everything away. I’ve got to keep some little secrets. [Laughs] I think people are going to be pretty happy about it.
Fair enough! Were there any particularly funny moments you had while filming Eclipse?
You know, whenever you get into these fight scenes it gets a little funny because you’re going after each other, and we’ve all been such good friends for three years now, so throwing a punch at your friend is kind of weird. Jasper has to train the Cullen family, so it was weird…  I didn’t want to throw punches at Nikki Reed or Ashley [Greene]! It just didn’t feel right to me to hit a girl. I was raised very Southern, and that’s very wrong where I come from.

Check out the rest of the interview over at FEARnet, and see what Jackson says about the 100 Monkeys touring outside of the US .. perhaps in the UK!

Jackson Rathbone Tells MTV That the Most Gratifying Part of ‘Eclipse’ Was Uncovering Jasper’s ‘Pain’

In an awesome new interview with MTV, Eclipse Vampire Jackson Rathbone (aka Jasper Hale) spoke about his character, Jasper,  in Eclipse. What his character is going through emotionally, and what we can expect action wise from Eclipse -
“There are some really cool action scenes,” Jackson told Hollywood Crush. “We worked with some amazing stunt men and women who were so incredible and just a lot of fun to work with and collaborate with. They taught me a lot. So I hope to see a lot more of the action [in the next 'Eclipse' trailer].”
Though we don’t learn much about Jackson’s Jasper Hale in “Twilight” and “New Moon,” his background is explored much more in “Eclipse.” “I’m excited for a step up with Jasper’s character,” Jackson said. “It’s been two, three years and now I get to kind of go outside and show a little bit more of what makes Jasper tick. We get to go into his back story — see where he came from, who he was before, what makes him who we see in the first film of ‘Twilight,’ what makes him seem like he’s always in pain, why he’s always in pain … because he is.”
So why, exactly, is he in so much agony? “He’s almost depressed,” Jackson said. “He wants to live a good life. He wants to be part of the Cullen family. He is the newest to this vegetarian vampire way of life, and he’s still trying to be part of that and address his inner demons and what he used to be. It was really fun to be able to express that.”
Jackson credits director David Slade, whom he called “amazing,” with helping to show how Jasper evolved into his present self. “I’ve always been a fan of his, especially his first film, ‘Hard Candy.’ I thought he did an incredible job with ‘30 Days of Night,’ so when I first got there, I talked his ear off about ‘30 Days of Night’ and how he got a couple of shots and all that.”
Some of Jackson’s favorite scenes to film were the ones that explore Jasper’s origins. “Whenever we got to go into Jasper’s back story,” he said, “I got to don the Civil War regalia and ride a horse. It had been years since I’d been on a horse, so it was fun. I used to ride when I was in Texas.”
According to some folks in the know (i.e. lucky people who have seen parts of the film), Jackson gives one of breakout performances in “Eclipse.” Jackson, however, brushed off the compliment, saying it was a little too soon to judge.
“I’d say wait for the film before you compliment me,” he chuckled.
I am speechless. I cannot WAIT to see Jasper tell his story. And for everyone to see how talented Jackson really is. Yes — he is amazingly hot. But he is down to Earth, intelligent, and extremely talented.

Stephenie Meyer offering 'bonus chapter' in paperback version of 'The Host'

Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host' - Hatchette Books
As progress in bringing Stephenie Meyer's The Host to the big screen continues, the book has finally made its way to paperback, and that version will include a bonus chapter as well!
According to The Host Fan, the extra chapter "is something Stephenie wrote when she was working with the film producers – it was a scene that Stephenie always had in her head, but it couldn’t appear in the book because her narrator was unconscious at the time. The 'omitted' chapter would, chronology-wise, fall in between Chapter 58 and 59 of The Host."
The site notes that this is the period of transition for Wanda between Melanie's body and Pet's.
Stephenie Meyer's official website announced that the book is now available for pre-order on Amazon, and will include the following:
  • New, never-before-published "bonus chapter"
  • An interview with Stephenie
  • Discussion topics and questions
  • Stephenie's annotated playlist
The release date for the paperback version of The Host is April 13, 2010.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' to be directed by 'The Reader' director Stephen Daldry?

'Breaking Dawn' by Stephenie Meyer - Hatchette Books
Yesterday, the net was a-buzz after the L.A. Times broke the news that directors being considered for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn were not just three-fold.
Adding to the list of potentials of interest is, they report, Stephen Daldry, director of The Reader (which earned him one of several  Oscar nominations).
"[T]here are not yet indications Daldry would actually take the gig, but the fact that Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the films, has reached out to him suggests where its intentions lie for the fourth film."
The list previously announced by Entertainment Weekly included Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls).
In addition to The Reader, Daldry has directed The Hours and Billy Elliot.
The L.A. Times concludes, Breaking Dawn "will in all likelihood be shot in the fall. That gives Summit a little more time to comb through high-end directors."

Anna Kendrick featured in 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' trailer

Anna Kendrick - AP Photo
After everything that Up In The Air meant for Anna Kendrick's career, a lot of folks are looking to see what she'll do next.
Of course, prior to becoming an Oscar nominee, Kendrick filmed Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World with Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, and Jason Schwartzman, and the film is scheduled for an August release.
In the teaser for the film, Kendrick (who portrays "Stacy Pilgrim") appears in the last few moments and says "Next time, we don't date the girl will eleven evil ex-boyfriends."
The film looks to be a pretty quirky and unique new endeavor for Kendrick, and it has already picked up a bit of buzz from others like Greg Mottola (director of Adventureland).
Kendrick twittered about the trailer release, saying "Deal. With. This."

Breaking Dawn Directors

MTV has an article talking about the different directors rumored to be in the running to direct Breaking Dawn.
Check out the article here.
Here is an excerpt:

A new name entered the potential directors pool for “Breaking Dawn” yesterday: Stephen Daldry. He previously directed only three films — “The Reader,” “The Hours” and “Billy Elliott” — but he received Academy Award nominations for all three of them. Daldry joins a group of three previously named talents who Summit is considering to helm the final installment in the “Twilight” series.

Do you favor any of these directors for Breaking Dawn?

Jackson Interview

MTV Has an interview with Jackson Rathbone.
Check it all out here.
Here is an excerpt:
Jackson Rathbone has now starred in three vampire movies (you may have heard of them, “Twilight” something or other), but the 25-year-old actor’s first foray into horror is “Dread,” newly released on DVD, about a college student who makes a documentary about what people dread most in life.
The film, based on a short story by horror king Clive Barker, isn’t necessarily typical of the genre, Rathbone said in an interview yesterday. “I hate to call it a horror film because it’s really more of a psychological thriller,” he said. “Clive Barker’s known for those horroristic elements, and it was more of a humanistic story.”

Justin and Michael Interview

In This Week has an interview with Justin Chon and Michael Welch.
Read the entire interview here.
Here is an excerpt:

Welch, who appeared in “Star Trek: Insurrection” and a fan-favorite episode of “Stargate SG-1,” explains that this isn’t the first time he’s seen dedicated fans.

“I’ve always been in awe of sci-fi fans because their passion is remarkable. And the thing that is great about sci-fi fans is that if they enjoy what you do in the sci-fi world they’ll follow you outside of that world as well. It has been a great pleasure to get to know the “Stargate” fans over the years, but this brings it to a new level. People were screaming for us before the first film even came out and I made the joke at one point saying, ‘We may suck and ruin your story so I wouldn’t be screaming at us quite yet,’” he says with a laugh.
