Diane Kruger joins ‘The Host’ film as the Seeker

Deadline is reporting that actress Diane Kruger is in talks to play the Seeker in the film adapation of Stephenie Meyer’s book The Host, directed by Andrew Niccol!
Diane Kruger is negotiating to star alongside Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel in The Host, the Andrew Niccol-directed adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer science fiction novel. The film takes place at a time when a parasitic alien species called The Souls has just about wiped out the human population. The Inglourious Basterds star will play The Seeker, who is charged with overseeing the conversion of a young rebel soldier (Ronan) whose consciousness has been infiltrated by Wanderer, a soul that has taken control of bodies and minds but who is daunted by the young human’s spirit — and obsessed with the memories of her boyfriend and her brother — and sets out to track them down. The Seeker pursues her, knowing that the conversion of the rebel will lead to the discovery and eradication of the rebel movement.

Lionsgate Officially to buy Summit!

Here is some information from the Lionsgate Official Press Release:
The transaction brings together Summit’s Twilight Saga feature film franchise, which has already grossed more than $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office, and Lionsgate’s highly anticipatedHunger Games franchise, which opens on March 23, 2012.  Lionsgate will also continue to benefit from its premier television production and distribution business, its array of branded film and television properties, its suite of branded channels and its success as an innovator in creating and distributing content for digital platforms.  Both the Lionsgate and Summit labels are expected to continue and be active in the production and distribution of films, although the combined company expects to realize significant synergies through the consolidation of administrative and other costs.

With this announcement there has been talk of The Twilight Saga continuing past Breaking Dawn Part 2. Here is what Gossip Cop is reporting!
There’s a chance The Twilight Saga could continue after the fifth film opens in November.
The bombshell was reportedly dropped by Jon Feltheimer, the chief executive officer of Lionsgate Entertainment, which acquired Twilight studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million on Friday.
“I’m anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office,” said Feltheimer of the final (planned) installment in the hit vampire franchise.
According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked whether Lionsgate could envision more Twilight past next fall’s fifth film, Feltheimer left the door open.
“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” he said. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration.”
He added, “So the simple answer is, ‘Boy, I hope so.’”
It’s not clear whether a potential continuation would involve future films or a television series.
Here is some of Summit’s response to the Lionsgate/Summit deal:
Summit Entertainment co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsbergerplan to be at their desks Tuesday morning doing business as usual, both said on Friday after it was announced that Summit will be acquired by Lionsgate.
“What we’ve made clear is we have two businesses running parallel,” Friedman toldThe Hollywood Reporter in an interview on Friday. “They are merging but they are going to continue operating [separately].”
Lionsgate announced Friday it had closed its leveraged buyout of Summit, home to the Twilight franchise, in a deal for $412.5 million in cash and stock and the assumption of Summit’s $500 million debt.

Who Will Be Sitting with Rob at the People’s Choice Awards?

There has been some confusion over whether Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will be attending the PCS with Rob tomorrow after two different seating charts showed up online today. Sadly it appears that neither Kristen nor Taylor will be attending the PCA’s on Wednesday!

Here is the original seating chart which was treated by @markmalkin and is being confirmed by Gossip Cop as the correct seating chart.

Here is what Gossip Cop said:

Twitter is abuzz with speculation that Kristen Stewart will attend Wednesday’s “People’s Choice Awards.”

Though she’s not one of the previously announced celebrity guests, an audience placard for Stewart was curiously shown on Tuesday night’s “Entertainment Tonight.”

In the clip, the seating arrangement has Stewart sitting next to her boyfriend and Twilightco-star Robert Pattinson.

So, is Stewart really going to be at the People’s Choice Awards?

Nope.

A source close to the star tells Gossip Copexclusively that the pictured seating chart is “bulls**t.”

The insider says they wanted “a headshot of [Stewart] for a skit,” but it’s unclear whether they’ll actually be doing the skit or not.

Regardless, while Pattinson is attending the awards show to support his nomination forWater For Elephants, Stewart was NEVER scheduled to appear and will NOT be there.

Will 2012 Be Taylor’s Year?

Will 2012 be the year Taylor’s career outside of The Twilight Saga takes off? Here is what The Twilight Examiner had to say.

Finally, with Taylor Lautner, he’s got a little bit of work to do, but he’s already making really good moves. For a while there, he was snagging job after job with very heavy paychecks. He was touted as part of the new “A-list” and had more future projects lined up than almost anyone else in the cast. The first film to come to fruition was Abduction, an action film featuring his first turn in a leading role. Unfortunately, something didn’t sync up with that movie and it struck a chord with neither critics nor general audiences.

This year could turn it all around, though. Not only does he have one interesting project in pre-production (Incarceron, a sci-fi prison-style picture based on the Catherine Fisher novel of the same name), but he’s also going to be teaming up with director Gus Van Sant on an indie project supposedly based on an article from The New Yorker. Otherwise, he’s still keeping a foot in the action arena, reportedly signing on for Goliath and a few other projects (one of which might include director Michael Bay). Being hardworking has always been a strength for Taylor Lautner, and that determination will carry over well for him when tackling these new projects. Once things get going on some of these, he should be on his way.

Taylor Lautner, Booboo Stewart, and Robert Pattinson made Capricho’s ‘Drool List’

Taylor Lautner, Booboo Stewart, and Robert Pattinson made Capricho’s list of 40 guys that made us drool a lot in 2011. Taylor came in at #1!

1. Taylor Lautner

No wonder he was voted “International Eye Drops” at whim Awards. In 2011, Taylor Lautner showed that a six pack is not only beautiful, but a talented actor with a promising future. In the role of Nathan in the movie “No Exit”, the guy showed a hand full of action even more than his character Jacob, “Breaking Dawn”. In the penultimate film “Twilight,” Tay took off his shirt, made baby face, joke and did – oh, oh! - Drew gasps and sighs of most people.

11. Robert Pattinson

Beautiful, charming, intelligent, funny! Rob Pattz was another actor who this year had a chance to surprise us with another character. Like Jacob, in “Water for Elephants,” we saw something very different vampire Edward in “Breaking Dawn”. The penultimate film of the saga premiered in theaters in November and was a box office record.

35. Boo Boo Stewart

We’ve been looking at Boo Boo’s séééculos! But after his performance was very cute in “Dawn” we were convinced that he is the perfect cub. In this film, he drew even more attention on the role of Seth.

Betty Confidential: Katniss (Hunger Games) vs Bella

Betty Confidential has created a Hunger Games vs Twilight smackdown by developing a friendly competition between both books main heroines Katniss Everdeen and Bella Swan. Read on for details:

It’s no secret that we’re mildly (okay, completely) obsessed with all things related to Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy. Set in a dystopian future, the story centers around Katniss Everdeen, a teenager who must fight for her life in a twisted tournament of death run by the government. Naturally, we’re super psyched about the upcoming movie based on the books.

Before the March 2012 big screen debut of The Hunger Games, we decided to pull Katniss out of the arena and square her off against another well-known female lead: Bella Swan ofStephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Most of us have watched the love fest between Bella and Edward blossom in Breaking Dawn Part I, but how long would the newly-minted member of the Cullen family last against the vengeance-seeking freedom fighter from District 12?

We divided this friendly competition up into the three categories we believe every heroine should possess: strength, both emotional and physical; wit; and loyalty.

Visit Betty Confidential to find out how each character fared in each category.

Rob and Taylor on Next Movies “30 Actors to Watch in 2012″ List

Next Movie is celebrating the New Year by looking at 30 actors to watch in this years biggest blockbusters. Rob came in at #15 and Taylor came in at #20.

Robert Pattinson

Starring in: “Bel Ami” (March 2); “Cosmopolis”; “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ (Nov. 16)

Why It’s a Big Year: Just call him the prince of adaptations. Pattinson tackles three literary heroes in 2012: Guy de Maupassant’s manipulative Parisian in the period drama “Bel Ami,” Don DeLillo’s shallow Manhattan billionaire in “Cosmopolis” and — of course — Stephenie Meyer’s eternally young vampire in love, Edward Cullen, in the final “Twilight.”

Taylor Lautner

Starring in: “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ (Nov. 16)

Why It’s a Big Year: When we last saw Lautner’s lovesick werewolf Jacob Black, he was kneeling in adoration before Bella and Edward’s human-vampire baby daughter. The final chapter of Stephenie Meyer’s epic supernatural romance should shatter box-office records and further solidify Lautner as the sexiest perpetually shirtless actor of his generation.

The Playlist’s ’50 Most Anticipated Films Of 2012′ Includes ‘Twilight’ Actors Movies

The Playlist has put together a list of 50 of the most anticipated movies this year. Cosmopolis (starring Robert Pattinson), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (starring Lee Pace), The Master (starring Rami Malek), and On the Road (starring Kristen Stewart) have been included in the list.

“Cosmopolis”

Synopsis: Based on the novel by American authorDon DeLillo, it centers on Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a young multi-billionaire making an epic, ultimately doomed limo ride across New York City.

What You Need to Know: David Cronenberg is enjoying an unparalleled level of critical and commercial acceptance after decades hovering on the fringe. At the outset, “Cosmopolis” seems to fall in line with the mannered, critic-friendly films of the recent Cronenberg era. It is, after all, an adaptation of a critically revered and best-selling novel and stars hunky heartthrob-of-the-moment Robert Pattinson. But on closer inspection, the movie seems more atypical and dangerous (a good thing, since “A Dangerous Method” felt far too safe for a filmmaker known for exploding heads and genital mutilation), taking place primarily in a stretch limousine as it crawls through New York City (not exactly a cinematic conceit). A number of Cronenberg’s favorite thematic tics are explored, too, including man’s relationship with modern technology, the messiness of murder and sexual obsession. So while it might be sold as another buttoned-up late era Cronenberg think piece, we’re hoping it’s going to be ruder, looser, and more like the days of yore, even if it has to be without the exploding heads and genital mutilation.

Release Date: With press for “A Dangerous Method” occupying much of Cronenberg’s time in the fall of 2011, our guess is the fall film festival circuit will be the earliest we see the picture.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

Synopsis: In the first of a two-part prequel to “The Lord of the Rings,” Bilbo Baggins relates an early journey with Gandalf and a pack of unruly dwarves to steal a horde of treasure from the dragon Smaug.

What You Need To Know: Given that the original trilogy was near-universally beloved, a giant box-office hit (taking close to $3 billion worldwide) and even managed to be win a record haul of Oscars with its last installment, getting “The Hobbit,” J.R.R. Tolkien‘s novel set, and written, before “The Lord of the Rings” proved surprisingly tricky, with rights issues and studio bankruptcy holding the project up for years, even before original director Guillermo Del Toro bailed. But Peter Jackson‘s finally returned to Middle Earth, and if the recent atmospheric teaser is anything to go by, he hasn’t forgotten what he’s doing. Settling back into the world feels like putting on a comfortable pair of old shoes, and the filmmaker looks to have the perfect Bilbo in “The Office” star Martin Freeman, who leads a group of new arrivals to the franchise including Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt, Aidan Turner, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Lee Pace and Evangeline Lilly, along with many returning favorites. We have our reservations: is Jackson’s heart really in it, after spending so long saying he didn’t want to direct the film? Will the two-part structure feel padded and indulgent for a book that only runs to 285 pages? Will having a baker’s dozen of dwarves mean that they blend into one? We hope not, and if anyone can pull it off, it’s the hirsute New Zealander.

Release Date: December 14th

“The Master”

Synopsis: After returning home from WWII, a charismatic intellectual (Philip Seymour Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization and taps a young drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) as his right-hand man.

What You Need to Know: With just five films spread out over the last fifteen years, Paul Thomas Anderson has become one of the most celebrated American directors working today. It’s been nearly half a decade since his masterpiece “There Will Be Blood” became the directors highest-grossing and most critically acclaimed film — his longest gap ever — but the wait seems worthwhile. His latest reteams the director with former muse Hoffman who portrays a man who starts his own religion during the 1950s and becomes the “master of ceremonies,” supposedly with strong parallels to Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Phoenix, in his first post-”retirement” role, plays the drifter he recruits, with Amy Adams and Laura Dern along for the ride too. Despite being less than 12 months from release the film is still shrouded in secrecy with even the title still up in the air. We reviewed an early rough draft of the script all the way back in February of 2010 and after several stops and starts (eventually being rescued by every cinephile’s favorite heiress Megan Ellison), the film is finally on its way, though the script has surely evolved since that minimal sketch was leaked. Initially hailed as a disciple of Scorsese and Altman, Anderson’s now finding himself being compared to another auteur whose films grew more masterful as well as increasingly further apart: Kubrick. All of this makes “The Master” quite possibly our most anticipated film of 2012.

Release Date: Assume a late fall release

“On The Road”

Synopsis: A long-time-coming adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s famous Beat Generation novel. Drifter poets Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty travel across the country in search of themselves, colliding with a rigid and impermeable society along the way.

What You Need To Know: Over thirty years in the making, director Francis Ford Coppola has been trying to get this picture made since the mid 1970s. Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles signed on to make the picture in 2005, with Coppola exec producing, but none of it became a reality until early 2010 when casting and financing finally coalesced. Starring Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley as the two leads andKristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi and more, rounding out the colorful cast, “On The Road” has been a labor of love for both Salles and Hedlund who has also been involved for years, biding his time for when funding would finally arrive. Having directed “The Motorcycle Diaries,” and other striking Foreign-language films, Salles has had an unlucky streak of late. After 2005’s semi-successful “Dark Water,” his 2008 co-directed film “Linha de Passe” failed to ever score distribution in North America. But having worked on ‘Road’ on and off for six years, we’re hoping this one is a major comeback.

Release Date: TBD, but we’re guessing a Cannes bow in May would make sense.
