'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' location controversy in Brazil

A lot of Twilight fans want to see partial production of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil because it is the setting of one of the most memorable portions of Breaking Dawn - the honeymoon and Isle Esme.
A recent story popped up on the AP recently, though, which indicated that the possibility of that happening is growing slimmer thanks to internal violence issues associated with the city. "Riofilme, the city's agency for promoting movie production, told AFP that 'Twilight''s US production company Summit Entertainment was in talks with Rio de Janeiro state officials who were trying to convince them to stay. The original plans were for scenes from the movie "Breaking Dawn," the fourth and final installment in the vampire fantasy, to be played out in the Brazilian city which is famed in equal measure for its spectacular beaches and its rampant street crime. But the real-life drama Saturday of drug gang members taking 35 people hostage in Rio's Intercontinental Hotel as they tried to escape police has proved scarier to the production crew than the fictional vampires and werewolves they deal with."
It would seem, then, that taking production on Breaking Dawn to Brazil has definitely been a consideration.
According to Twilight Lexicon, Summit Entertainment has issued an official statement with regard to the matter, saying "The possibility of filming portions of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN in Brazil has always been under consideration and we are continuing to scout locations within the country."

'Twilight' screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to discuss vampire lore with Stephen King

At this year's New Yorker Festival in New York City, Twilight series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be participating in a discussion panel on the subject of "vampires in popular culture" with none other than Stephen King.
Stephen King has written vampire lore novels before, including Salem's Lot, and, of course, Melissa Rosenberg has written the screenplays for Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
So, in other words, they both have experience in the vampire pop culture field.
Of course, most Twilight fans are hard-pressed to forget Stephen King's words about Stephenie Meyer, so there is bound to be a bit of dismay over the coupling involved for this panel.
It should be interesting - understatement - to hear how the two approach the issue as it is inevitable that the Twilight series will come up during those discussions. One has to wonder whether Stephen King will be deferential to the Saga's success and popularity, or if he will dismiss the Saga altogether and focus on other works of vampire fiction.
In any case, the New Yorker Festival takes place from October 1-3rd, and more information about the event is available here.
