Idol Magazine Interview with Charlie Bewley

Volturi tracker extraordinaire Charlie Bewley aka Demetri of The Twilight Saga:New Moon, spoke in detail with Idol Magazine about all things human and vampire, and he finally let’s us in on if he’s team Jacob, Edward or Volturi.
IDOL: So Charlie, how does it feel to be the ‘Jesus’ of the Volturi Guards? (Demetri has been nicknamed as such by Twi-hard fans)
Charlie: Jesus? My God, well when your bestowed with these fantastical powers… it’s wonderful to be an actor in that situation where you know there’s nothing to be afraid of and you exist as your character, there’s a certain nonchalance, a certain arrogance that comes with that, you pretty much do what you want with it, it’s great.
IDOL: Do you think that arrogance has rubbed off on you in real life?
Charlie: No! Do you think so? No, I went through my arrogant phase, I was an arrogant little crap when I was younger. I think that’s behind me now.
With the role of Demetri, there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance, I’ve always been confident with the person that I am, and it’s done really well for me I like to think. With Demetri, yeah there’s arrogance there because they’re so elitist in the Volturi, there is that arrogance, there is that sense that no one has a chance.
IDOL: We call them the vampire mafia.
Charlie: You call them that? I call them that!
IDOL: We’re on a wavelength
Charlie: Yeah, you read that didn’t you.
IDOL: I read a lot of things, but that came out my own amazing brain.
So, on the lines of Demetri’s character, in the book he comes across as polite and calm but manipulating at the same time, is that something you had to portray in the movie? Was it difficult to get that balance?
Charlie: No it wasn’t difficult to get that balance. You’re right. Demetri and Felix have this great relationship, Felix just wants to fight, Demetri’s quite lazy. I think that’s the way it’s always worked, they were the ones who always used to go out and sort out the other ones. Was that hard to play? No, the danger was very apparent to the vampires, with red eyes, they’re very cool looking. So what you’ve got to do is play it nice and there’s always this undertone of danger to someone who looks like that. I could take those contact lenses out and be a normal person, as soon as you put those contact lenses in, I can’t tell you. I could smile and it would be even scarier
IDOL: We hear that you’ve been working on a new film, Ecstasy, how does your role in that compare with your role in the New Moon?
Charlie: Well as Demetri goes around Italy, killing innocent tourists, I play an alter boy, so it’s a bit different. It was a lot of fun to do. It was a great experience. In terms of the two characters there is zero parallel between them.
IDOL: If you weren’t playing Demetri in New Moon, which character would you most like to play?
Charlie: In the Twilight saga? I’d like to play Jacob. I think he’s got a great character there I really do, just the physicality. I’m team Jacob.
He may not be my favorite on screen but off screen Charlie is the coolest of the cool, he’s downright hilarious.  Check out the rest of the interview here.

Melissa Rosenburg Talks Scripts, Breaking Dawn

This past Friday night as we all know, tons of different outlets held their own personal New Moon midnight DVD parties, and Twilight Saga screen writer Melissa Rosenburg was present at the New Moon party at Fred Meyer in Seattle, where she spoke about the topic on everyone’s lips: Breaking Dawn.
How do you condense an 800-page book into a two hour movie?

MR: “Very carefully. You start with, and you end with, what is the emotional journey for these characters. That is the most important thing to capture, that is the only thing to capture. Everything else is up for grabs, but you must take these characters on the same emotional journey that they took in the book, and hence take the audience on the same emotional journey that they took in the book and that’s the goal, you hope that you achieve that. some people would say I did, some people would say I don’t.”

Do you get any feedback from the fans when you, for example.. cut certain scenes?

MR: “I have a fan site, and the fans will weigh in and say wow! you’ve cut too many things out.. or say I’ve done a fantastic job. They are very kind on my site, there are other sites I know that I don’t read, because I can’t handle that kind of intensity. You can’t make all the fans happy, you try to make as many as possible happy.”
How is that going to be a challenge for the last one? (‘Breaking Dawn’) because as you know, that’s the big one.

MR: “It’s the big one, it’s gonna be a big challenge, and I guarantee you that not all of the fans will be happy, and I guarantee you some of them will be.
You have to give up the ideal of making everybody happy, it’s just not gonna happen, but you hope you make the majority happy. Again, for that last book it is about taking that specific character Bella on her journey. It’s a big journey, it’s a massive change for her, and you hope to realize that.”

What did director Chris Weitz bring to ‘New Moon’ that you think was valuable to the series?
MR: “He was so good. He opened up the franchise. He opened it into this sweeping epic story. Twilight was a very intimate personal movie. it was a small movie, it had almost an independent feel to it. Chris made it into a beautiful spectacle, he really expanded it, expanded the world of it.”

Going back to ’Breaking Dawn’, how far along are you in the planning, with production coming up pretty soon?

MR: “It’s coming up very soon, it’s all deep into the discussions and working on the story, and figuring out what it’s gonna be… we’re deep in the middle of it.”

Any word on when it will “officially” be green-lit?

MR: “I don’t know, but obviously soon.. vampires aren’t supposed to age, so you know.”

Can you talk about the fan craze surrounding the main characters Bella and Edward, and how it’s carried over to real life for these actors? How do they handle it?

MR: “I don’t know how they handle it frankly, it’s a lot to have coming at you, I can’t even begin to imagine. I have a little bit coming at me and it’s almost too much. Can’t even fathom what it is like, I hope they get to have a semblance of a real life.”

Finally, can you give me one word to describe ’Twilight’ fans?

MR: “Passionate.. for sure.”

The Eagle Tribune’s Q & A Session with Robert Pattinson & Another Breaking Dawn Confirmation?

The Eagle Tribune has a pretty insightful question & answer session with Twilight Sagavampire Robert Pattinson aka Edward Cullen.  In the Q&A session, Pattinson talks about Twilight, Remember Me & a hilarious dinner with Pierce Brosnan.
Q. Did you pick this project just to counter your Edward Cullen image?
A. That was one of the reasons. But there was also something different about the script that stayed with me. It was odd — you wonder why it was written, what happened to the writer, what elements are true. And it seemed like I could spend the summer in New York and it would be really nice after all the pandemonium.
Q. Pierce Brosnan, who plays your father, was James Bond for four films; you’ve got a four-film franchise. You ever talk about that?
A. Not really, but he was great, zero pretense, completely comfortable in his own skin. The first time we went out to dinner, there were people at another table looking at him, so he went over and introduced himself and suddenly everyone was much more comfortable.
Q. They were looking at him and not you?
A. They had no idea who I was. It was an old French restaurant on the Upper West Side. Someone said, “Is this your son?” And Pierce said, “Yes! This is my son. …” He was really fun to work with.
Q. There are only four “Twilight” novels; the third film comes out in June. It seems like you’re in the homestretch.
A. That’s why I was never particularly worried. They’ll do the last one at the end of the year, and that’s it. Done. And because I didn’t start when I was really a kid, I don’t feel like I’m losing anything or selling my childhood. It’s such a funny thing to have gone through. It’s such a supernova. It exploded so quickly, and then it’s finished.
Q. How do you refashion yourself after that?
A. I’m making “Bel Ami,” which is based on a Guy de Maupassant novel. I play a con man who seduces his way up the social ladder, betrays everybody. Anybody who does him a favor, he stabs in the back, and then he gets rewarded for it in the end. He’s a real menace to society. It’s a completely different experience from what I’ve done before.

‘The Runaways’ Director Floria Sigismondi Talks Breaking Dawn!

In a new interview with MTV, Floria Sigismondi who is the director of Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning’s new movie The Runaways, discusses Breaking Dawn and how she would feel about directing it -
“Well, I’m just actually starting to read it — it’s a little bit darker, so I think it’d be interesting,” she told MTV News. “It’s really interesting, yeah, maybe a little edgier. Like I said, I just started reading, so I don’t know actually where it goes, but it does seem to take on a different imagery and a different level.”
Sigismondi, who has a background directing music videos for artists like Interpol and Christina Aguilera, likes what she’s read so far. “It’d be interesting to do something a little bit differently, but keeping the story and the characters,” she said. “But it looks like they enter a different world. Bella goes through very different things in the last book.”
Sigismondi is also looking to follow up her rock biopic with something different, and it seems the vibe of “Breaking Dawn” could fit very well with what she’d like to do in her next film. “I think I’ll probably go into some fiction,” she explained. “A little, kind of, made-up worlds and a little more fantastical.”
While she could make for an interesting choice, Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and even Robert Pattinson have all put in good words for Gus Van Sant. “He just makes stunning movies. I just love his work,” Stewart confessed. “They’ve got so much depth. I feel that all of the movies have that [something]. I feel like all the directors have already brought that, but he’s one of my favorites, so I would love that.”

'Have you seen these 'New Moon' Secrets on your DVD?'

Something fun to do with your DVD after you have watched every bit of special features footage. Start looking for these hidden gems from Chris Weitz.

1. Hidden wolves
''Look for an upside-down engraving of a wolf in the shot of the bowl in which Carlisle burns his first-aid equipment; on Jacob's T-shirt when
he meets Bella in the school parking lot for the first time; and a wolf
trinket on the dream-catcher that he gives her.''

2. Vampire elevator music
''When Edward, Bella, and Alice get into the elevator on their way to
see the Volturi, the music playing in the elevator is from Strauss' Die
Fledermaus (a.k.a. The Bat).''

3. Emotional baggage?
''When Bella is looking for the meadow where she and Edward are seen
lying down together, she carries a golden compass clipped to her
backpack — part of my baggage!''

4. Speedy suitor
''We did a little trick when Edward gets out of Bella's truck and
they're arguing. We wanted to show Edward moving impossibly quickly, so
we put Rob right next to the camera but out of sight, and used a double
dressed like Rob in the driver's seat. When Edward gets out, it's the
double, and then Rob steps in front of the camera, and it looks as if he
got there faster than humanly possible.''

5. Look it up
''And last but not least: If you want to know what Jacob says before he
almost kisses Bella, ask a Quileute! The address of the Quileute tribal
council is quileutenation.org. I can tell you this much: He says, Kwop
kilawtley.''

6. Tower of glower
''You can see Volterra's tower and the red-cloaked revelers from the
festival of San Marco on the cover of Bella's copy of Romeo and Juliet
when she wakes up in her bedroom.''

7. Hope it was a rental...
''In the wolf-fight, we purposely knocked over the camera when the
wolves tumble towards it; you can also hear the microphone thumping, as
if an actual on-set animal had run into the camera and boom.''

8. Quileute culture

''When prepping to visualize Jacobs and Emily's houses, production
designer David Brisbin and his team visited La Push and met the Quileute
executive council. While they were there, a young Quileute girl gave
David the first drum she made (this is a Quileute custom). To show
appreciation, we decided to put the drum in a prominent shot — it's at
the entrance of Emily's house, and you see it when Bella first enters.
Also, the high pitched 'call' that Embry and Jared give when they jump
out of Bella's car is a thing the Quileute kids do.''

9. Waxing romantic
''The reason the moon phases 'backwards' to reveal the title is that
this is scientifically correct! I moderated an astrophysics seminar for
the Science and Entertainment Exchange with noted astronomer Neil
DeGrasse Tyson and he complained about the number of films that get
simple science wrong. (Don't ask me to justify vampires or
werewolves).''

10. That's Italian!
''In the Volturi chamber, Aro speaks Italian — 'La Tua Cantante' should
be easy for readers of the books — he's referring to Bella's being
Edward's 'singer,' whose blood calls out to him stronger than anyone
else's. Later, when Bella tells him that he doesn't know anything about
Edward's soul, he replies, 'Fore ... ne il vostro l'uno o altro' —
'Perhaps ... nor yours either.''

The Twilight Saga: New Moon' DVD choices: WalMart versus Target

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' - Summit Ent.
There are scattered variations of The Twilight Saga: New Moon on DVD available at several different vendors, but the two that most readers here have asked about are from WalMart and Target.
WalMart has the "Ultimate Fan Edition" and Target has the "Three-Disc Deluxe Edition," and you guys have asked what the big differences between them are.
So, here you go.
For starters, you should know that the two share features found on the standard two-disc edition but that they definitely have different offerings.
The differences are that Target's came with a film cell from the movie which is pretty cool (mine came with a frame of Edward in the Volturi lair), and it does have the extra disc with deleted scenes and a couple of other features. WalMart's had either a water bottle or some stickers, and it has the Eclipse sneak peek and a few other documentary-esque spotlights and discussions.
So that makes for at a handful of observable differences between the two DVD versions, but let's start with the common features.
Standard two-disc edition features included on both editions
  • The Movie
It goes without saying that both versions include the actual film, but just to be on the safe side . . .
  • Director's Commentary
In the commentary, director Chris Weitz and editor Peter Lambert reflect upon the making of the film as it plays out on the screen.
In the feature, a few new details about the filming process are revealed. Here are a few:
  1. Chris says he used the moon in the beginning because he figured there’d be screaming, and he did it the way he did because a lot of people at a science and film conference said it’d never been done correctly.
  2. The "Gran Dream" meadow rays were CGI-ed in and are called "God rays."
  3. Chris Weitz takes credit for the fact that Edward smiles after the audience screams during his entry.
  4. He also explains that the stance of the Cullen family in the den for the birthday scene was intentionally made to look like an eighteenth century portrait of a family in their specific, appropriate places.
  5. Weitz states that the golden tones of this film (as opposed to the colors used in Twilight) were meant to look like a Pre-Raphaelite painting.
  6. The “I love you” line by the truck was an “ADR line,” and it was the actors’ idea to add it in when things are going wrong rather than when they are good between the two characters.
  7. Chris Weitz says it “killed” him when the break-up scene got out on the internet before the film made it to theaters. He wanted audiences to see it for the first time in the theater.
  8. A lot of the camera cut uses in the film, particularly those surrounding the break-up scene, were very intentional so as to reflect the mood of the sequence. For instance, when Edward is breaking up with Bella, a “Dutch” angle is used on her face, and when she is alone in the woods, the camera circles down on her to reflect the world coming down on her.
  9. Sam Uley wore long shorts because Chaske Spencer had an injured knee.
  10. A man did Kristen Stewart’s motorcycle splat stunt.
  11. The Comic Con clip of Taylor taking his shirt off was cut into a thinner pan because Stephenie Meyer called it “Jacob’s Chippendale Audition.”
  12. Chris Weitz also revealed why he made for a good romance director when he described the founding moments between he and his own companion . . . Awww.
  13. Hallucination Edward flickers according to the movement of a candle flame. Chris Weitz says they were synced together.
  14. It was Edi Gathegi that suggested Laurent actually fight with the wolves because he wouldn’t go down running.
  15. Taylor Lautner really jumped out of the window in the bedroom scene with Bella.
Weitz and Lambert also keep a hilarious running tally of Jacob's "mistakes" in the story. They are as follows: (1) When Jacob mentions "that Cullen guy" as he and Bella are joking about age; (2) When Jacob doesn’t kiss Bella after she’s hit her head on the side of the road and calls him “sort of beautiful”; (3) When he tries to hold Bella’s hand at the movie theater; (4) and when Jacob leaves Bella to go chase after Victoria after she’s learned he’s a werewolf.
  • The Journey Continues: A 6 Part Documentary on the Making of ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’
This six-part feature includes quite a few interesting tidbits of information. The six features are as follows:
  1. Life After 'Twilight': The cast reflects upon how their individual lives have changed since Twilight came out and how this has built things up for New Moon and Eclipse.
  2. Chris Weitz Takes the Helm: The actors praise Chris Weitz and how easy and fun he is to work with.
  3. The Subtle Details: Tish Monaghan (Costume Director) and David Brisbane (Production Designer) talk about some of the challenges and successes in designing the more intricate details of the film's on-screen look.
  4. A Look at Production: This is exactly what it would seem to be: a look at the production of New Moon in process. This portion of the feature offers a few new details about the film that were previously untold in the commentary such as the fact that the break-up sequence was filmed in a hotbed of "giant mosquitos" and that Chris Weitz warred with himself over the necessity of the rain in the Bella and Jacob "break-up" sequence (but rain won out for its atmospheric "charge").
  5. It's Not Magic: This shows how some scenes were put together in the post-production phases and with the non-magic of CGI (i.e., Bella's cliff-diving scene).
  6. Ready for the World: Peter Lambert talks about how he and the team selected certain shots and moments to make the film's cut. We learn that most of the wolf fight scenes were filmed as a blank landscape shot and that several versions of Edward's part of the break-up scene were filmed.
  • Music Videos
Both the WalMart and Target versions have "Music Videos" as a special feature. The four videos shown in this feature are as follows:
  1. “Meet Me on the Equinox” Music Video by Death Cab for Cutie
  2. “Satellite Heart” Music Video by Anya Marina
  3. Behind the scenes rehearsal of “I Belong to You” by Muse
  4. “Spotlight” music video by MUTHMATH (from the ‘Twilight’ Soundtrack)
Special features included on the Target version only
  • Deleted Scenes
The Target version, first and foremost, includes eleven snippets of non-included footage from the film. Some of them are extended scenes and others are outright deleted. Here is a list of the scenes with descriptions, and some of them are available for viewing at Twilight Source.
Before any new clips are shown, Chris Weitz comes in and offers that “When you’re making a movie, sometimes you want the film to be a certain length . . . and so there were some moments that were left out that fans might be interested in seeing. I don’t think any of them are crucial . . .”
  1. Bella’s Birthday Cake: The scene starts after Rosalie gives Bella her gift and Alice takes a photo of Bella and Edward. All that is added is that moment when Bella says “Alice that cake could feed fifty, and you guys don’t even eat.” Then it goes into the scene where Bella gets Emmett’s gift.
  2. Driving Home from Party: It starts after Carlisle has stitched Bella up from the birthday party incident, and Bella and Edward are riding home in her truck. “Say something,” Bella says. “What do you want me to say?” Edward sneers. “I’m a total klutz, but it’s okay, things will go back to normal,” Bella offers. “Normal people get papercuts. If you had a normal party, it would come down to a band-aid. If I were a normal boyfriend, I wouldn’t have to fight the urge to kill you,” he says angrily. “Stop,” she interrupts. “I don’t want normal. I want you.” Then, the scene trails off into the kissing scene outside of the truck.
  3. Waking in the Woods: Bella has fallen onto the ground after chasing Edward through the woods. She is awoken by an ominous noise of heavy, deep breathing and stands up to run and hide. Footsteps approach, and then it pans to Bella being carried through the woods by Sam Uley.
  4. Charlie Puts Bella to Bed: This is a continuation scene from when Bella is returned by Sam. Charlie helps Bella to bed, saying “What the hell were you thinking baby? Why were you out there?” The room is up-side down from Bella’s perspective, but she only says “He’s just gone.” She shifts sleeplessly around the bed, whimpering.
  5. Bob’s Bikes: This is a continuation scene of when Bella is still mopey, and Charlie speaks to the next door neighbor Bob as he places some old bikes next to the roadway. “Yeah, it’s about time you got rid of those stupid things, Bob. Seen one too many bikers smeared on the highway,” Charlie says. “Save the lecture, Chief. Soon as someone hauls them away for scrap, you and my wife can rest easy. Hey, what’s the word on this bear problem? Folks are saying that they’re huge?” “Uh, yeah, that’s just talk,” he says before approaching Bella. “Hey, running a little late again aren’t ya?” he asks. “No, I’m fine,” she replies. After that, the discussion about her going to Jacksonville to stay with her mother comes up.
  6. Bike Crash: A sleek, new bike is running down a similar highway as Bella drove on in the beginning of the movie. We hear the sound of some animal grunting followed by the bike screeching, and the biker has skidded onto the road. He peels himself up slowly but appears to be a bit damaged. After that, it goes into Bella and Jacob working on their bikes.
  7. Bella’s Nightmare and Chat with Charlie: It starts with the scene where Jacob mentions Cullen and inspires a bad dream. In the dream, Edward is lying above Bella’s lifeless body on the bed, and a werewolf waits next to the bed while a caterpillar types an email on her computer. “Edward,” she addresses. “I’m not him.” “Who are you?” “You know who I am. I’m you. What do you want Bella?” “I want you Edward.” “That’s not my name. My name is nothing.” After that, it is Bella herself speaking with his voice. “You’re nothing.” She wakes up screaming. “I’m sorry I woke you up,” she says to Charlie. “It’s okay. Kind of like when you were a baby, I didn’t sleep then either.” He adds in “I do know what it’s like, you know. When your mother left, took you with her, that was not a good time for me. I thought about doing all kinds of crazy things just to ease the pain.” That’s when the whole “love the one you’re with” discussion starts up between Charlie and Bella.
  8. Remembering the Meadow: This shot shows the green screen of Bella and Jacob in the car. Jacob asks Bella about what would’ve happened if he said he couldn’t fix the bikes. After saying “we’d just have to figure something else out,” she offers that they could’ve studied “all the time.” “Someplace sunny,” she suggests when he asks about where they should ride. “I know, it’s above the cloud bank,” she answers. “It’s really hard to get to,” she says after remembering the meadow. “That’s okay.” It then goes into the scene where Bella sees Sam and the others cliff diving.
  9. Mike is Left at the Cinema: After Mike’s “that dude is weird” comment, Bella says that she hopes Mike feels better and walks off. In another take, she says “See ya” and walks off. Mike is left saying “I need a ride.” In the third take, she says nothing and walks off, leaving Mike saying “I’m sick too.”
  10. I’m Here if You Want to Talk: This scene starts out where Jacob is telling Bella to go away in the rain. He runs off, and Bella returns home soaking wet. Charlie sees her and says that “Billy called, said you and Jacob had a fight. Look, I’m sure you guys will work it out.” “I’m gonna change,” she says. “I’m here if you wanna talk,” Charlie adds as she walks away.
  11. Victoria’s Driving: After Bella tells Jacob that she knows what Victoria wants, it shows Victoria in the car having called Bella’s house. “My friend isn’t home,” she says to a limp blonde woman. “Thanks for the phone and the car, you’re a lifesaver. James hated cars. He liked to be close to the ground, but I’d steal one occasionally to throw him off the scent. See, we play hide and seek sometimes. No can hide like me, but no one can seek like James.” The woman wakes up confused. “Some games lasted for months, but we’d always get hungry for each other, so I’d let him find me. We never could get sick of each other. We would’ve had forever to try. You remind me of her, the little human that got James killed. Then again, you all look the same to me.” The woman realizes that her companion in the backseat (Michael) is dead and begins to scream. “James always did love a screamer," Victoria finishes.
  • Interview with the Volturi
In this feature, Stephenie Meyer and the cast and filmmakers talk about the Volturi characters and settings. It's a nice little close-up look at the characters especially. One of the more interesting moments of the feature is when Christopher Heyerdahl talks about his character's backstory. He states that his character Marcus had the greatest love story of all time with Aro’s sister but that Aro ended up killing her. “He’s somewhat of a tragic figure, but he has to continue on with these ruffians.”
One thing that I was excited to hear about in this film was what happened to Ky Wildermuth. Back in May, he was announced as the winner of the "Be a Part of New Moon" contest for his hilarious little rap, and he was originally supposed to be an extra in the film. Turns out, by the time he made it to the set the extras scenes were already done, so he robed Aro instead.
  • Fandamonium
This is actually a pretty cool feature because it presents Twilight fans in an appropriate and non-bandwagon sort of way. In a sense, it is a big (and literal) "THANK YOU" to Twilight fans for supporting the film franchise with such devoted fervor.
  • The Beat Goes On: The Music of ‘The Twilight Saga; New Moon’
Alexandra Patsavas reveals that she started with a palette, and Chris Weitz opined that the soundtrack had the potential to be one of the great break-up albums out there.
Interesting spotlight features on the following soundtrack contributors are given:
  1. Sea Wolf
  2. Band of Skulls
  3. Anya Marina
  4. Death Cab for Cutie
  • Frame by Frame: Storyboards to Screen
This is kind of a fun look at what the original storyboards for certain scenes looked like in original conception form as opposed to what they looked like on-screen after shooting.
Special features included on the WalMart version only
  • The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Sneak Peek
This portion of WalMart's exclusive includes an extended sneak peek of filming behind-the-scenes as well as a clip from the actual movie.
See here for more on this feature.
  • Team Edward versus Team Jacob: The Ultimate Love Triangle
The cast and filmmakers of the film talk about what the appeal of the two characters. For instance, Peter Facinelli opines that the situation is as follows: “You know, one’s the best friend and one’s the soulmate."
  • Introducing the Wolf Pack
This feature shows some of the behind-the-scenes work that it took to get the wolfpack cast members into shape for the film.
We get to meet and know the cast members filling these roles a little bit more as well as more about how their characters reflect an actual wolfpack in their behaviors.
  • Becoming Jacob
This is a spotlight on Taylor Lautner's process in becoming ready to bring Jacob Black to the big screen for New Moon. You probably already knew that whether he would return for the role was a bit of a controversy in the early stages of the project, but by the time this feature was made, everyone seemed pretty convinced.
  • Edward Goes to Italy
This is a good little feature on the decision that Edward made in approaching the Volturi. It's an interesting synopsis of the mindset and motives involved in that decision.
  • Jacob Fast Forward (and) Edward Fast Forward
These are actually two separate features, but they're most significant when compared to one another. They are both flash forward compilations of all of the sequences involving the two characters. Watching them is like cutting the other out and viewing the story without the other in it. Jacob's is much longer than Edward's, and it's really interesting to see the story arc play out this way. Literally a plus for "teams."
Conclusion
As you can see, both versions' special features offerings are vast. Comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges . . . or . . . Edward and Jacob?
I can't say which is better suited for you as between the two of them. I loved the music features and deleted scenes from Target's version, but I also enjoyed the Eclipse sneak peek and little spotlight focuses offered in WalMart's.
I will say that I felt more like I got my money's worth with Target's than WalMart's if that helps!

New Moon' DVD's 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' sneak peek revealed

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' sneak peek screencap
Earlier this month, the first official trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was unveiled, and we looked at the dialogue chosen for the film as compared to the words in Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse. Things were pretty close to the mark.
In the Wal-Mart "Ultimate Fan Edition" of the New Moon DVD, an exclusive sneak peek of Eclipse was offered (a portion of which was seen earlier in the month), and a few new quotes and interview snippets were shown as well as a clip from the film (which was previewed in part on the first official trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).
In part of the new behind-the-scenes footage, Carlisle shares a bit of knowledge with his trainees. "Our kind is never more physically power than our first several months of this life." A bit more of the fight training sequences seen in the earlier sneak peek is seen here.
After showing some of the filming in action, a few important faces go onto talk about Eclipse's director David Slade.
"David's great, you know," Stephenie Meyer says in the feature. Michael Welch calls him "funny" while Charlie Bewley says "the guy's hilarious."
Stephenie Meyer goes on to reflect about the story in Eclipse, saying that it's about "fantasy love and reality love."
Finally, the Eclipse sneak peek that is revealed by this feature is a scene of Bella and Edward in the bed discussing her mortality.
“I have to figure out what to tell people . . . why I won’t be home for Christmases, why I won’t visit, why they’ll never see me again,” Bella says.
“After a few decades, everyone you know will be dead, so problem solved,” Edward replies.
“Why are you so against me becoming like you?” she asks.
“I’ve told you,” he answers.
“Be honest with me. There’s more.”
“I know the consequences of the choice you’re making. I’ve lived through it. And to let you suffer that . . You believe I have a soul, and I don’t. But to risk yours, just for the sake of never having to lose you, that’s the most selfish thing I’ll ever do.”
One commentator to the last post pinpointed the direct quote from which Edward's words are drawn, and it is as follows: "It gets easier. After a few decades, everyone you know is dead. Problem solved," by Edward Cullen on Page 226.
The seven minute sneak peek is posted over at Twilight Source if you'd like to check it out!

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' soundtrack will include Muse?

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.
If the releases of Remember Me, The Runaways, The Twilight Saga: New Moon on DVD, Twilight: The Graphic Novel Volume 1, and Twilight In Forks this month weren't enough to make March one month of particular excitement for Twilight fans, this last bit of news might just tip the scale.
Twilighters Anonymous sent a reporter to this year's South by Southwest Festival (SxSW) where Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack contributors (and literal muse band for the series' author Stephenie Meyer) Muse was playing.
TA caught up with someone from Chop Shop Music (and Atlantic Records) who confirmed that Muse would indeed be on the soundtrack for Eclipse!
A few weeks back, the news that Muse would not appear on the album rocked the fandom - which, for the most part, believes Muse is one of if not the most important contributors on the forthcoming album.
Originally, the story that Muse wouldn't appear on the album came from a Californian source that quoted Dominic Howard to say the band would not be appearing on the album thanks to "business"-related issues - not for lack of interest.
Their interest in being a part of the album, in fact, was expressed to MTV back in October of last year.
TA estimates that since SxSW was attended by both the band and Atlantic, they may have come to some sort of arrangement there.
If the source is correct, and a deal was worked out which would include Muse on the Eclipse album, it's a great day for some of us!

Would You Direct Breaking Dawn?

MTV asked Floria Sigismondi, who directed The Runaways, if  she would be interested in directing Breaking Dawn.

Muse In or Out on Eclipse Soundtrack?

Back in the fall Muse stated that they were excited to work on the Eclipse soundtrack. Then, about a month ago in a Contact Music article it sounded like they didn’t make the final cut. This frankly seemed odd to us just on the timing because the actors are still doing ADR work and frequently you don’t deal in soundtrack until after the ADR work is practically done. So now Twilighters Anonymous is reporting that Muse is back in.  Here’s the story according to Twilighters Anonymous.
“TA has a reporter who has been covering events down at the SXSW (South By Southwest) Festival in Austin, Texas all week. Well today that reporter happened to find themselves in conversation with informed sources from Chop Shop/Atlantic Records. The source has confirmed that Muse will indeed be on the Eclipse soundtrack.”

Aziz Ansari: Why He was Watching Twilight Mystery Solved

aziz
Last week we told you about Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari live tweeting while he watched Twilight. No one really knew what spakred the sudden interest. Now the LA Times showtracker seems to have stumbled on the answer. If this is true, you have to hand it to him for doing research on what is likely to be featured on a one-day gig.
“Insiders tell Showtracker exclusively that the comedian and “Parks and Recreation” star is in final negotiations to host the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, slated to air live June 6 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City.
Last week, Ansari spent a couple of days live-tweeting his first-ever viewings of “Twilight” and its sequel “New Moon”:
Never thought I’d see a dude pull up in a Subaru Forrester with such authority. … #TwilightAziz
(As of last Thursday, the comedian was still unsure about whether he was Team Edward or Team Jacob.)”

Twilight Graphic Novel Rocking the Sales

Twilight Graphic Novel

A fast look at Amazon.com and the Twilight Graphic novel is in (at the time of this post) the number 1 position in all three graphic novel tracking categories and is in the top 30 books being sold on Amazon overall. At our podcast in New York on Friday we did a little informal poll to see what the interest was. The audience was pretty even among those who were getting it no matter what, maybe getting it after looking at it, and not getting it because graphic novels aren’t their thing.
Many people after the podcast came up to look at our sample, and we saw it in quite a lot of people’s hands as they lined up for their DVD at midnight. Most were struck by the artwork’s depth. Manga in style, but not so far into the genre that the characters looked too cartoonish: no overly heavy eyebrows, neon primary colors, or eyes the size of dinner plates here.
It’s a sales first for a graphic novel on many levels according to The Advertiser
“The 350,000 first printing is believed to be the biggest for any graphic novel in the U.S. market.
Because of the original Twilight novel’s length, the graphic novel will be published in two volumes. No date has been announced for the second. Nor is there any word on whether the last three books in the series will be adapted to the format.
The hardcover book, illustrated and adapted by South Korean artist Young Kim, was created with author Meyer’s oversight.
“When it comes to really seeing Stephenie Meyer’s personal vision of the Twilight property, this is as close an opportunity there is to accomplishing that,” said Yen’s Kurt Hassler. “Stephenie was very specific and has very clear images of what the characters look like in her head.”

People Magazine: Nikki Reed on Eclipse Preparation

nikki-reed
People Magazine asked Nikki Reed about Eclipse preparation.
“Movie vampire Nikki Reed says she wanted to “die” shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse because it was so emotionally and physically draining.
“We’re always standing out in like 30-degree weather, with pouring rain, trying to keep our vampire makeup intact,”she told PEOPLE at designer Yotam Solomon’s fashion show in Los Angeles. “It’s hectic, it’s crazy, it’s very jam-packed full of emotion.”
“We were doing a lot of stunts, too much in too little time,” Reed, 21, said, calling life on set “tough.” “The hardest part is trying to fly around on cables in the woods at 6 o’clock, fighting the sunset and stuff. And looking like we’re not cold and super powerful, when we just want to die.”

The Runaways: Box Office Hit? Let’s Look at Some Facts.

DakotaKrisRun1
It’s funny how fast things get judged. There are various reports out there comparing The Runaways’ opening weekend to Remember Me’s opening weekend. Unfortunately they seem to be over looking several key factors.
1.  The Runaways is only open in limited release. There are many cities that won’t get it until April.
2. On Friday, Twilight fans went to DVD release parties then played the DVD, slept in and then did it again. On Sunday they did everything else that they should have done the previous two days. They’ll see the flim next weekend.
3. The film is rated R which is going to cut into a chunk of the Twilight audience, not all of it, but a chunk of it.
In any case the film seems to be meeting with wide critical appeal from fans and critics. Let’s see what happens when it goes into wide release.
Kristen and Dakota also gave an interview to LAish. Check part of it out below.
LAist: One of the first things you did to get into character was cut your hair off.
Kristen: I needed to feel sweat dripping down my face. I would have felt like a fraud if I had a wig on. I’ve worn wigs in the past and they can look great. A lot of actresses won’t work without them. Dakota’s wig looked amazing, she worked really well with it. With the wardrobe and the hair it slowly becomes like a reality that you can believe. It can feel like this huge job, like, “How am I ever going to approach this?” And then you get on set and it all comes together. I can’t really bring myself to do anything until I’m on set. We didn’t see her do “Cherry Bomb” until we shot it. We were all floored. It was so cool.
LAist: Did you guys watch old videos of the band performing to prepare for your roles? I know I went home and watched them on YouTube after seeing the movie.
Dakota: You compared them, ooh.
Kristen: Yeah… you can do that…
LAist: No, you guys did such a good job.
Dakota: Yeah, there’s a lot of footage of them performing. When I first read the script I wasn’t familiar with who they were and who Cherie was. I had heard of Joan Jett and was familiar with her music, but not really “The Runaways.” So, I looked up their old videos and pictures of them and when I saw her perform “Cherry Bomb” I knew that I really wanted to do that.”
