Twilight' helps 'Wuthering Heights' sales increase

'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte
Last fall, just before the major promotions surrounding The Twilight Saga: New Moon's release began, publishing company HarperCollins re-released Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights with an unabashedly Twilight-esque cover to it.
Mixed feelings on the subject of the re-vamp were discussed by Entertainment Weekly, and a lot of folks were on the fence about whether the decision to re-brand the story to accommodate its Twilight-descending newcomers was agreeable or not.
Sentiments notwithstanding, it seems that Wuthering Heights has enjoyed a bit of success coming off the decision.
The U.K.'s Telegraph reports that Wuthering Heights publishing company HarperCollins is enjoying a nice jump in sales because of the Twilight series.
Wuthering Heights, before the first Twilight books came out in 2005 sold 8,551 a year in Britain. However, the publishers Harper Collins reissued Wuthering Heights last year, with a cover inspired by the Twilight artwork and including the tag-line: "Bella and Edward's favourite book".
Following this reissue, sales peaked at 2,634 in one week and totalled 34,023 during the year, according to Nielsen Bookscan, which monitors book sales across the industry. This was a fourfold increase and it is now one of the best selling novels at Tesco, as well as more traditional book shops.
Anyone else not surprised?
You might also be interested to note the "look" of some of the other Twilight-related classics. Both launched in fall 2009 by HarperCollins subsidiary HarperTeen, Romeo and Juliet and Pride and Prejudice (stories also heavily incorporated into the text and plot of the Twilight series) have also gotten a new Twilight-like face.
You can check out those new cover editions here and here.

100 Monkeys talk about the possibility of appearing on 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' soundtrack

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.
The idea that the 100 Monkeys should appear on the official soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been floating around for quite some time.
The band, made popular in part thanks to its member and Twilight star Jackson Rathbone, has been vetted for a spot on the album by a great many Twilight fans over the past few months.
Several of the band's members did an interview recently with TMCnet, and during the discussion, Ben Graupner (a.k.a. "Ben G") talked about that very possibility.
There has been talk of 100 Monkeys appearing on the "Eclipse" soundtrack, but Graupner says, "I think we know just about as much as anyone else who's out there." "Obviously, they know who we are," he says. "We played a couple of cast parties and stuff ... you wind up meeting those people. They know the music, but there's been no formal approach from either side concerning that. So I think at this point it's all just sort of Internet buzz."
While no official track listing for the album has yet been released, and talk about who will be a part of the soundtrack has been "buzz"-ing around quite a bit, the fact that they haven't heard anything about it yet is discouraging to that end.

Twilight' star Billy Burke launches website, free fan single coming soon

Billy Burke - AP Photo
If there is one nearly universally shared quality of the cast of the Twilight series, it's possession of the musical bone.
A couple of days ago, we learned that Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Billy Burke ("Charlie Swan" in the series) plans to release some of his music this summer and that he intends to reward his fans' dedication with a free copy of the first single from his album.
As Burke promised on his Twitter page, he announced the launch of his first official website today, allowing his fans to sign up for an exclusive, free song download to come in the near future.
On the website, BillyBurke.net (now listed on the list of official cast, etc. websites), Burke tells a bit about his inspiration, Tom Waits.
As I merged from the onramp onto I-5 South on that typically drizzly afternoon, the voice coming through the Cadillac’s single speaker was one that had long since altered my musical perception and therefore took the place of honor as co-pilot on my journey. The title on the dilapidated cassette tape was “Small Change” by the guru of involuntary solitude and ironic disenchantment– Tom Waits. While the rest of the world was being falsely introduced to what would become known as “grunge”, I would choose to stick with the guy that in my opinion, wrote the book on the elements that movement came from. It’s music like his and other troubadour poets like him that would greatly influence what I did as a musician, if I could ever find the time, dedication and fortitude to actually BE one.
Burke recounted how he pulled into L.A. with the intention of being both a musician and an actor, but as time went on the acting portion took precedent (as far as the public is concerned, at least) though he never stopped writing music.
So here, on the precipice of two decades into what was always intended to be a “duel career”, I am about to share with you what was supposed to be the FIRST half, but has now become the second…
With the exception of a couple of very special guest musicians whom I’m beyond elated to have coming in, initial tracking for my first LP is now complete. We’ve got some mixing and mastering yet to do but we’re almost there.

MELISSA ROSENBERG COMMENTS ON BREAKING DAWN

Melissa Rosenberg has updated her Facebook page again! This time Melissa talks about her thoughts on all of the heavy and graphic scenes in the script for Breaking Dawn. Check out more from Melissa below
Thanks for all your thoughts! My feeling is – more or less blood, or more or less graphic violence, sex or childbirthing gore doesn’t define Breaking Dawn. It’s the characters, their journey, their relationships. The other stuff won’t change that. So regardless of the rating, the story, essentially, is the story. I won’t be able to satisfy ALL fans, but hopefully more fans than less. Keep commenting! xoxo, Mel

TWILIGHTERS BOOST SALES OF WUTHERING HEIGHTS

The classic, Wuthering Heights has seen a boost from Twilighters, in fact, a little more than just a boost. Sales from the book have actually quadrupled since the film version of Twilight was released. Read more below:
LONDON – Emily Bronte’s classic gothic novel ‘Wuthering Heights’ has witnessed its sales quadruple after the release of vampire film Twilight. The cult teenage film is itself based on a trilogy of books by Stephanie Meyer.
The lead character of Bella, in Twilight series, compares her love for the vampire Edward with Cathy’s passion for Heathcliff in ‘Wuthering Heights.’
Before the first Twilight books came out in 2005, Bronte’s book sold 8,551 a year in Britain.
However, the publishers Harper Collins reissued it last year, with a cover inspired by the Twilight artwork and the tag-line: “Bella and Edward’s favourite book”.
According to Nielsen Bookscan, which monitors book sales across the industry, the result sales reaching 2,634 in one week and totaling to 34,023 during the year.
“It’s fantastic to see teenagers are reading a whole different genre – the classics – as well as fantasy novels because of the popularity of Stephanie Meyer’s books,” the Telegraph quoted Tesco’s assistant book buyer Rachel Harcourt as saying.

Billy Burke’s New Website Goes Live!

Billy Burke tweeted the other day about having a new website and seeing if he could promote a music project by not going through the (frankly in our opinion antiquated) record label system. Well, by all accounts it is a wild hit. We think the number of people hitting the site as it launched even surprised Billy. If you follow Billy on Twitter and in interviews, you know that he is a guy that doesn’t got surprised easily.
In the welcome message of his new site, Billy talks about his acting and unfortunately his much delayed music career. He also waxes on as he reminisces about the Seattle music scene of the early 1990’s when grunge was coming into its heyday and Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were leading the charge out of the bubblegum 1980’s. Billy then sums it all up by saying:
“It’s been 19 years since the Caddy sputtered into Hollywood, low on oil with a driver even lower on outlook. In those years and throughout his sometimes rosy, sometimes less than stellar career as a film and TV actor, that “driver” has continued to write songs. Songs that reflect the ongoing experience of never knowing. Songs that he hopes might speak to those with similar presentiments and with any luck, those who just dig some music.
It has been such a fucking treat for me to be able to work with the caliber of artists we’ve gathered to make this thing happen. Much credit and my ongoing gratitude goes to producer David Darling who saw my vision and fearlessly brought it to life as no one before ever has. I’m not gonna put any useless preconceptions out there and tell you what “kind” of music it is or who you might compare it to so…
We’re just gonna give away one of the tracks for FREE. Give it a listen. Decide for yourself. To be honest, I’m not sure how long the “freebie” will be available as I’ve gotten quite a bit of resistance to this idea, (Whatev. It’s my music, I’ll do what I want with it) so… GET ON THE LIST AND GET IT NOW. As soon as it’s ready, you’ll be emailed a copy.
In addition to the album, we’ve got some other good shit in store for the early subscribers in the months ahead. As we work out the details, you’ll be informed on how to get in on it. Don’t be shy. Leave a comment, question or unsolicited rant. I’ll be as diligent as I possibly can in responding to everyone (even the jack-offs and smart asses).
At the risk of sounding all squishy and sentimental, this venture has been a long time coming for me, so I really would like to thank you all in advance for coming along…”
