The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' bad vampires chat with filmmakers

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Kimberley French/Summit Ent., L.L.C.
Summit Entertainment is releasing a new series of cast and filmmaker chats from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse this week, and the first has been revealed!
The first feature, which is now available for viewing on iTunes, includes "bad vampire" actors Bryce Dallas Howard ("Victoria"), Xavier Samuel ("Riley Biers"), and Dakota Fanning ("Jane") with their Eclipse filmmakers David Slade (director) and Wyck Godfrey (producer).
In the first discussion, the five talk about how they worked to create these very manipulative characters on-screen. For Samuel, it seems, the discussions focused on "how [Riley] harbors this kind of immense hatred and rage toward humanity because that’s exactly what he’s been deprived of." With Fanning, it was rather simple since "Jane" is a small, quiet thing who only needs to smile in order to destroy. As for "Victoria," Bryce Dallas Howard talked with her co-stars and filmmakers at length about how she brought back some of the book's most descriptive features of the character - such as a small voice - and how that contrasted nicely with her more vicious moments.
More of these videos will be released this week, including: one with Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, and the filmmakers; Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, and the filmmakers; and Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, and Julia Jones with the filmmakers.

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' predicted to beat 'New Moon' opening weekend numbers

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Summit Ent.
All along - during the downtime between The Twilight Saga: New Moon's release and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's - fans have been asking this question: will The Twilight Saga: Eclipse surpass the incredible numbers set forth by The Twilight Saga: New Moon?
No doubt, the biggest achievement of New Moon in the box office was to set the record for biggest opening day ever. So, the topic has definitely lingered as to whether the summer Eclipse showing will top that record.
Also, the staggering opening weekend numbers (3rd highest ever) for New Moon reached $140.7 million in the first three days. So, whether Eclipse will eclipse New Moon's opening weekend figures is prominent as well.
According to TheWrap.com, industry predictions give the nod to Eclipse in at least the second portion of the inquiry.
Conservative forecasts predict the PG-13-rated film will gross $150 million domestically in its first six days of release, spanning through the holiday weekend. That would usurp the $142.8 million three-day opening for “New Moon” last November. “Eclipse,” which returns the core cast of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, will also debut in 41 foreign territories this weekend. “We hope our opening day will be bigger on opening day because our audience isn’t getting up for school,” noted Summit distribution chief Richie Fay.
Only a few days until we know. For now, what fans seem to be doing to effectuate their desire to see Eclipse break records is pre-ordering midnight release tickets (which has put Eclipse atop advance ticket sales lists) and planning to see the film more than once during opening weekend.

Kristen Stewart promotes 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' on 'The Today Show' and 'Regis & Kelly'

Kristen Stewart - AP Photo
This morning, Kristen Stewart hit the television circuit to promote The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in the same fashion that Taylor Lautner did yesterday: visiting both The Today Show and Live With Regis & Kelly.
On The Today Show, Stewart talked about her experience with Twilight fandom as well as her appreciation for her Welcome To The Rileys character, and on Regis & Kelly, Kelly Ripa issued her empathy for the volume of attention she receives from the crowd.
She also discussed where she's headed next . . . On The Road. "I'm so excited, I can't even tell you," she explained.
The subject of her cat, "Max," came up in the interview, but unlike the Letterman discussions about her mother's wolf-dog, it didn't become an awkward debate . . . just a quirky story.
Stewart went on to discuss her character's ultimate journey in Eclipse and made a good point about how the theme of the film, choice, comes full circle with the story's ending.

David Slade says he won't do director commentary on 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' DVD

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Kimberley French/Summit Ent., L.L.C.
As you know, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has yet to hit theaters (though it begins at midnight showings tonight), so news related to the Eclipse DVD is definitely premature . . . except for this.
Steve Weintraub with Collider.com interviewed Eclipse director David Slade and asked him a few questions about what fans can expect from an Eclipse DVD.
Naturally, Slade only had a few details to offer, but they are interesting nonetheless. As he'd mentioned in the Eclipse filmmaker panel at the press junket a couple of weeks ago, the "Angela and Bella" discussion (over graduation announcements) was cut from the film, and Slade explained that it was timing - and nothing to do with performances - and pacing that cause the deletion. Fans should, he explained, expect to see that scene on the deleted scenes . . . but don't quote him on it.
Also, Slade proclaimed that he'll not be appearing on the DVD in the capacity of a director commentary. Why? Well, listen to his words in the video below.
On another note, Slade cleared up what he called a "web rumor," saying that he does not know what his next project will be but that The Shadow is absolutely not it.

Stephenie Meyer, Robert Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart among Forbes' 'Celebrity 100'

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart at 'Eclipse' premiere - AP Photo
Stephenie Meyer, Robert Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart have all been placed on Forbes' "Celebrity 100" list for this year.
While it isn't Meyer's first time on the list (she was ranked 29th for 2009), it is Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's debut in the feature.
Stephenie Meyer, who ranked 59th this year, earned a reported $40 million this year, and Forbes expects that the recent release of The Short Second LIfe of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella will help to propel Meyer back to the top of the list for next year.
Robert Pattinson debuted at 50th on the list "with $17 million in earnings" for the year, and Kristen Stewart earned the 66th spot with "$12 million between June 2009 and June 2010."
Forbes also noted that "Pattinson ranks seventh for Web hits, and he appeared on 28 magazine covers." Last year, when Pattinson didn't make the list, some speculated that the reason was his lack of one of two factors (1) recognizability and (2) earned income. No doubt, the suggestion was that the latter was missing, and apparently that isn't a problem for Pattinson (or Stewart) anymore. Forbes predicts that with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Parts I & II on the way, things won't changed too much over the next couple of years . . . except, they indicated, for the probable future inclusion of Taylor Lautner on the list.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are among the celebrities covering Forbes' "Celebrity 100" edition.

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE FUND

NEW YORK, NY (June 28, 2010) – Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, has announced today that it has sold over one million copies of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: an Eclipse Novella by Stephenie Meyer. The novella, released on June 5th, has already become the biggest selling new book of the year so far. As previously announced, one dollar for each book sold in the US from the first printing is being donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund* resulting in a donation of over one million dollars to the American Red Cross to date.
“The generosity of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Stephenie Meyer and the one million fans who purchased the novella is both awe inspiring and humbling,” said David Meltzer, senior vice president of international services with the American Red Cross. “Their collective support will help the American Red Cross respond to international crises, prevent life-threatening diseases, prepare for disasters overseas and provide support to help those in need around the world.”
Since its release, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner has dominated bestseller lists both in the US and around the world. The novella, the first new work from Meyer in nearly two years, debuted at #1 on the USA Today, Wall Street Journal and IndieBound bestseller lists as well as bestseller lists in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the UK.

In addition to the phenomenal sales of the print edition, fans from around the world have been given exclusive access to the novel at www.breetanner.com until July 5, 2010. So far an estimated 75,000 fans have read the book in its entirety online. Visitors to the site are also able to make a donation to the American Red Cross.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is the riveting story of Bree Tanner, a newborn vampire first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the world she inhabits. The novella chronicles the newborn vampire army’s journey as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion. The character Bree not only features prominently in the book Eclipse, but in the movie from Summit Entertainment which is being released on June 30th.
In less than five years, Stephenie Meyer has become a worldwide publishing phenomenon. The Twilight Saga’s translation rights have been sold in nearly 50 countries and 100 million copies have been sold worldwide.
*Donations to the American Red Cross from the US sales of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner will continue until all first printing copies have been sold or at the end of a two-year period from the initial publication date, whichever is the first to occur.

Ashley Greene, Xavier Samuel, and David Slade take 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' to Spain

'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' - Kimberley French/Summit Ent., L.L.C.
Ashley Greene ("Alice Cullen") and Xavier Samuel ("Riley Biers") joined director David Slade on a reportedly sixteen hour journey to Madrid, Spain to celebrate the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse!
Much like the premiere they attended last week in Los Angeles, California, the three were met with hundreds of eager fans and signed autographs and took photographs on the red carpet in Madrid.
Below are two videos from that appearance - of both the photocall and the Spanish Eclipse premiere's red carpet.
Ashley Greene and Xavier Samuel are not new to the Twilight series premiere scene. Obviously, Greene's been to all of the major Hollywood premieres for the Twilight series and then some, and Xavier Samuel got his first taste of Twilight premiere-ness at November's red carpet event for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. David Slade, on the other hand, was nervous as he could be on the Eclipse black carpet, but he certainly seems more calm and collected in these videos from Spain, doesn't he? Perhaps it's because of all of the great reviews coming in.
