OK Go's Kulash says 'any musician in the world' would want on 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' OST

OK Go's Damian Kulash has confirmed what many Twilight fans knew long before the official soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: New Moon even approached the contributor announcement list's release: "Any musician in the world would have given an arm to get on that soundtrack," he said to the Brown Daily Herald.
Kulash went on to talk to PopMatters about the issue, too, saying "Oddly, the hardest way to get your music out there now is by selling records," and "MTV doesn’t play videos anymore and radio is a dying medium, but millions of people buy videogames and watch movies and commercials."
Of course, the soundtrack for New Moon was a special case. For one reason or another, Twilight fans are extremely likely to pick up a copy of the album just the same as they would the DVD for the film.
As it turned out, the soundtrack for New Moon fared very well in the marketplace, making New Moon soundtrack hopefuls (who, whether they got on or not, were promoted and accepted into the Twilight fan community in some cases) seem all the more wiser and New Moon soundtrack contributors have a whole new fan base in some cases.
On the New Moon soundtrack, OK Go is featured for their song "Shooting the Moon,' and although the band (like many of the other bands on the soundtrack) had a wide fanbase prior to being placed on the album, the added exposure certainly didn't hurt. Especially since the New Moon soundtrack went platinum only a few weeks after its release.
Back in October, just before the album's release, Kalush told MTV that OK Go was "flattered" and "felt like we made it" when asked to be on the soundtrack.
